Down and Dirty Blues from WALTER TROUT: "Cold Cold Feeling" LIVE in Santa Cruz

WALTER TROUT brought down the house at Moe's Alley this past May, here combining his effortlessly blazing guitar talent and passion-infused vocals with the solid bones of the blues classic "Cold Cold Feeling" to deliver some truly “down and dirty blues”. Trout’s audience is absolutely smitten, for reasons quite clear!

“I learned this song from Mr. Albert Collins,” Walter Trout announces mid-song. "Cold Cold Feeling" itself, however, dates further back. Relatively unsung music hero Jessie Mae Robinson had composed this killer tune nearly 30 years prior to Collins's 1978 electric version. T-Bone Walker was the first to record "Cold Cold Feeling", in 1951. In contrast with Collins's silky-smooth groovin' approach, T-Bone's is all sass and dazzles with a sultrier swing. The song has since been covered numerous times through the decades, and Trout's version is a must-hear! (This live version was filmed on the fly using in-camera audio).

PSDSP's "Shoulder" Delivers Heady Brew of Avant Grunge

PSDSP's "Shoulder" Delivers Heady Brew of Avant Grunge

OWL MOUNTAIN SESSIONS 008 presents a heavy, heady brew of avant-grunge à la the Bay Area's cult darling PHYSICAL SUICIDE DETERRENT SYSTEM PROJECT (PSDSP). The Marin rock trio's sound frequently references the gnarly thrashing riffs of raw '90s grunge, but PSDSP's penchants for poetic innovation and unconventional elements have them going about their head banging in refreshingly artful, intellectual, rule-breaking fashion. A core inspiration for PSDSP is the life/death cycle within nature and the human psyche; their songs explore the forces of creation, decay, disintegration, and revival both surrounding and within us. Instead of dwelling upon morbid doom and gloom, however, PSDSP exalts the intricate, bewildering beauty hidden within nature's darker elements. At once sinister and joyous, "Shoulder" is a stellar example of PSDSP's brand of zen-filled angst, and is their epic first in a series of upcoming singles.

JESSE COLIN YOUNG's "Sunlight" – 50 Years and Fresh!

Owl Mountain Sessions 006 presents one of our most profound influences, Jesse Colin Young. "Sunlight" harkens back to his first record, "Soul of a City Boy”, when Jesse went into the studio in 1964 with Producer/Pianist/Composer Bobby Scott and cut his first full-length record in 4 hours. This is Jesse at his purest, with only his luscious tenor voice and fingerstyle acoustic guitar playing to bring you into a story, a love song, that speaks to the time when he and The Youngbloods first traveled to San Francisco. Ultimately, “Sunlight” would be the first song Jesse wrote after he made the big move from New York City to the small farming town of Point Reyes Station on the Northern California coast. Such a move would be culture shock for most, but for Jesse, the band, and their families, this was a cultural release that to this day has spawned close to five decades more of creativity. Join us for 006 "Sunlight" and let Jesse take you on a beautiful 4-minute journey of love and inspiration.

Please also take the time to go to www.jessecolinyoung.com to view Jesse's tour schedule. We had the opportunity to see him and his new band at The Sweetwater Music Hall this month and were blown away by their performance. Catch a glimpse into that glorious night with "Ridgetop" as filmed by Owl Mountain Productions HERE. He and his talented crew have been selling out venues all over the East and West coasts, so get those tickets quick!
